"What an amazing experience this competition has been! When I first became involved in this project I did not anticipate how huge it would be. At the London in-store castings in September, we were overwhelmed by hunks of all shapes, colours and sizes. The turn out was huge!

By the time we came to judging, our task was not a simple one with all the judges having different opinions on who the finalists should be. I am looking for a star, an iconic model that women fantasize about and men aspire to be.

With the 9 finalists chosen, they had a chance to experience a real photo shoot with renowned men’s magazine GQ. I did not know where to look, with half naked men running about the studio. But the 9 finalists all put on their best model poses and the shoot was a huge success.

My job is done now, so I guess it’s now up to you to vote for your winner!"

YOU DECIDE WHO WINS

Two months of castings, 32 in-store events, about 3000 successful applications, 2 million pages viewed on the website and an excruciatingly difficult decision to make. But after lengthy reviews, a few late meetings and heated debates, our prestigious panel of judges accomplished the easier said than done mission of selecting the 9 finalists.

After being told the good news, the 9 finalists were flown in to the Calvin Klein Underwear head office in London to participate in a top notch photo shoot organised by the Conde Nast publications group. None of these boys are professional models, yet they took part in the posing game with great talent and dedication, proving that they all deserve to win the competition. And trust us when we tell you the result looks amazing! So be sure to grab the April issues of GQ and Glamour to discover first hand the faces – and bodies – of these 9 gorgeous men.

We will also be organizing exciting activities in selected cities during the months of March and April. It will offer you a unique chance to see the finalists in the flesh, have a chat and even get your picture taken with them! Stay tuned on the website and don’t forget to check the Events page to find out when and where they will be stopping by.

9 Countries 9 Men Competition Launch

Robert Johnston - Instore Castings

Tomorrow I will be attending the Calvin Klein Underwear event at the House of Fraser, where hopefuls will come to enter the competition to find a new face of Calvin Klein Underwear - is it me or does a face for underwear sound a little odd?
Also there will be my fellow judge Jamie Dornan, who in today’s paper has been named as a contender for the title of the most handsome man in London. Indeed, the magazine I work for, GQ, once dubbed him the male Kate Moss. I have a horrible feeling that behind my back GQ dubs me as the male Kerry Katona. Ho hum.
The email entrants are still coming thick and fast, and I am pleased to say that the good old Brits are still coming out best - though I may be biased. I have come up with some queries, however. First, why would you wear flipflops in your photo? Second, why would you somehow distort your image so that you look weird?
And as you may know, each nation involved in this European-wide competition has Calvin Klein Underwear in its “national” colours. So why are entrants from Spain, for example, sporting Swedish trunks? Call me old-fashioned, but I think the boys should be more patriotic.

In my time as a journalist I have judged many thing, from shaving gel to ready meals, but I have never judged a living creature, not even a guinea pig, so it is quite a shock to be bombarded by pictures of extraordinary defined male bodies sporting nothing more than pairs of Calvin Klein Underwear. Luckily most of the men seem to have decided to sport trunks so at least some blushes have been spared.

This is very early days so it would be unfair to draw any conclusions or to point the finger at potential winners, but already a few things have become apparent. First, the standard is very high. There are some men who are obviously spending more time in the gym then I spend in the office - and it looks like it’s paying off And looking through the gallery here it seems that the British boys are pumping the most iron.

Secondly, rather than a blurry Facebook-style photograph, the guys are sending in what look like professional shots that wouldn’t disgrace an ad campaign. The only slight mystery, is why so many entrants have decided to submit a colour and a black and white shot, but have colorised a small section of the monochrome offering. I suspect that somewhere there is a guide to being a model that is encouraging the guys to get going on Photoshop to improve their chances. Personally I’m not convinced it makes any difference! But hey, it’s worth trying anything in competition like this.
